Support the DF in the IfA Council election

Current Article Views: 62 views

It’s IfA Council election time and IfA members will have recently received the candidate statements and their ballot papers by email. This year two DF committee members are standing for Council and we would ask you to support them in the election. The candidates are our new Acting Chair Mary Neale, and the new DF Treasurer Sophie Jennings.

There are five candidates, and only three council places to fill, so there will be a ballot. Historically there has been a very low turnout and EVERY VOTE COUNTS in this election. Please print the ballot paper, make your vote and send it in to IfA by Friday 27 September! If you work with or know other IfA members then please ask them to vote too. You all pay your subs so use this opportunity to elect candidates that will support fieldworkers through their work in raising awareness about training, standards and minima as part of the RO Scheme and help make archaeology a financially sustainable and rewarding profession for all of us.

Every council member stands as an individual and will speak at council according to their conscience -there is no ‘DF Block Vote’- but Mary and Sophie have committed themselves to helping represent field staff on council. Use your vote to support them!

There are fourteen council members in total, after the election the first council meeting will vote in November on the IfA minima for next year –we already have three DF committee/former committee members on IfA council in Sadie, Geoff and Chiz, and with two more DF members, plus the support of other council members we have an even better chance to get a meaningful increase in minima to reflect the increasing cost of living, and the aspiration to increase wages to at least the IfA Recommended Starting Salaries.

Please use your vote and help the DF in its work on IfA Council and beyond,
