A list of Archaeological CPD courses for 2014 organised by the Centre of Archaeology at Staffordshire University (www.staffs.ac.uk/ archaeology) in September.
All the courses will take place at the new state-of-the-art Science Centre close to the railway station and will be taught by specialists in their fields.
Field Archaeology in the 21st Century ā one day CPDĀ workshop
This one day CPD workshop offers an introduction to field archaeology. Topics covered will include archaeological principles and field methodologies, archaeology and planning, recent technological advances in archaeological fieldwork, and health, safety and projectĀ logistics.

Writing for Publication ā one day CPDĀ workshop
This one day CPD workshop offers a comprehensive overview of writing for publication. Topics covered will include writing a site narrative, identifying themes, referencing and sources, where to publish, and new approaches toĀ publication.

Ceramics and Small Finds ā two day CPDĀ workshop
This two day CDP workshop offers an introduction to ceramics and small finds from archaeological excavations. Taught by specialists in their field, day one offers an introduction to the importance of archaeological finds and how they can assist with the production of a site narrative. Day two offers delegates a choice of either taking part in a ceramic workshop (covering spot dating and typologies) or a small finds workshop in the recovery and interpretation of archaeological smallĀ finds.

Forensic Archaeology ā two day CPDĀ workshop
This two day course will offer an introduction to the role of the forensic archaeologist within UK criminal investigations and international mass death scenarios. Through a series of lectures, workshops and practical exercises, participants will have the opportunity to gain new knowledge and to apply this to mock scenarios in the classroom. For those wanting to apply their newly acquired skills, the optional two day offers the opportunity to excavate a mock burial in our state-of-the-art Crime Scene facility. Participants will gain experience in excavation, crime scene recording and evidenceĀ recovery.

GIS for Archaeologists (basic) ā one day CPDĀ workshop
This one day CPD course offers a practical introduction to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for archaeologists. GIS has revolutionised how archaeologists collate, compare and interpret data from multiple sources. Topics covered in this introductory course include simple GIS tools, data imputing, geo-referencing, shape files, and exportingĀ data.

GIS for Archaeologists: Data collation and integration (intermediate) ā one day CPDĀ workshop
This one day CPD course offers an intermediate level Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for archaeologists. GIS has revolutionised how archaeologists collate, compare and interpret data from multiple sources. Topics covered in this course include topographic modelling, rasterās and tins, querying data, view-shed analysis, predictive modelling, and landscapeĀ analysis.

Archaeological artefact and object scanning techniques and 3D printing ā one day CPDĀ workshop
This one day CPD course offers a comprehensive overview of object laser-scanning techniques and data imaging. This practical-based workshop introduces delegates to a range of scanning technologies and software including Minolta, Faro Scan-Arm and Geomagic. The session covers data acquisition and scanning, post-processing and imaging, through to 3DĀ printing.

Archaeological visualisation and data presentation on a budget ā one day CPDĀ workshop
This one day CPD course offers an introduction to a number of archaeological visualisation, presentation, and data acquisition techniques which utilise free or minimal cost web-based platforms, software packages or applications. These methods, such as photo-stitching and 360 degree photography, geo-tagging, and data mapping, offer accurate and innovative ways to present a wide variety of archaeological data and media types without large costĀ implications.

Holocaust Archaeology ā one day CPDĀ workshop
This one day CPD course, taught by the worldās leading Holocaust Archaeologist, offers an introduction to this new discipline of conflict archaeology. Topics covered will include background to the events, truths and miss-conceptions, material evidence of the Holocaust, ethical and religious considerations, archaeological methodologies, and case studies from acrossĀ Europe.
