Chris Hobbs, chairman, said: “Only 70 henges are known to exist at present. The Norton henge is one of the oldest. We have dug at this site for the last three years with over 100 participants. 2013 may be our last year here. We will concentrate on the centre of this stone-age ceremonial site and also aim to date the outer ditch. This is a rare opportunity to get involved in local field archaeology and make important discoveries of the earliest settlement of this area. We have a number of places for more volunteers of all ages to help with the excavation, whatever your experience.”

North Hertfordshire District Council’s archaeology officer Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews will direct the dig which runs from July 17 to August 24.    Wednesday to Sunday inclusive

There will be an Open Day on Saturday 24 August.
