In 2015, Oxford Archaeology East excavated the remains of a Mark 1 Spitfire X4593 that crashed in the Cambridgeshire Fens in November 1940.
The project was commissioned by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire through a Heritage Lottery Fund grant and as part of the development work on the Great Fen project.
The Wildlife Trust has now produced a DVD which captures the week-long excavation in October 2015. The award winning and fascinating film includes footage of the excavation, finds processing, the dedication memorial ceremony, a photo gallery, and interviews with the pilot’s family and witnesses who saw the Spitfire come down.
Visit the Wildlife Trust’s website for further information and details of how you can purchase the DVD.
