Historic England supported Bursaries available for Commercial Sector Archaeologists
STILL TIME TO APPLY!
In order to facilitate a holistic and open access approach to the study, protection and enjoyment of the country’s historic environment Historic England are keen to prioritise the need for better communication and engagement of academic and commercial archaeologists, at the local, regional and national levels; this is a particular issue for scientific aspects of our heritage.
It is well known that project managers working in commercial units and specialists working either within a unit or freelance tend to receive little financial support to attend or support Continuing Professional Development events. This exacerbates a divide between academic researchers and commercial practitioners, and restricts the knowledge exchange required to transfer and implement new methods, techniques and research questions.
Therefore, through support from Historic England, we are able to offer a limited number of bursaries to enable commercial practitioners to attend UKAS 2019 in Manchester in order to facilitate and enhance the integration of scientific research with commercial archaeology. These bursaries will cover the conference fee as well as offer up to £300 for travel and accommodation, depending on particular circumstances. Commercial archaeologists applying for this bursary are still able, but not required, to submit abstracts for poster presentations at point of application. To apply, please email a completed Application Form to ukas.manchester@gmail.com by Friday 12th April.
