Photography Vs Digital |

I have an annoying duct,
Just had a WSI in for a level 2 survey and it still specifies old fashioned SLR cameras and BW and Colour film including hard slides for archive. Is this common to all county specifications or is it just mine. I have had this a number of times now for all sorts of field work.
Despite the B&W film being rarer than chicken lips, surely a digital camera can cover all todays photography and archiving could be on DVD or CD or reproduced on photographic paper for the furture.

Has the Troll really gone? |

I think BAJR without the contributions made by Troll will be a sadder place. An awkward sod, but as any baker will tell you, who really wants pastry that always tastes the same.
If anyone out there is in touch with him, can you assure him of the kind wishes of at least one BAJR regular and ask him to come back to where he is needed most.
And a personal message for Troll (incase he is 'lurking'). "Don't desert us now old boy, not when they are on the run, Blair has almost gone, I can see a bright light at the end of the tunnel....."

WHS Trowels - ANNOUNCEMENT |

Given recent questions and worries about trowels, you will be glad to know that BAJR (via the sister site Past Horizons) has now made a bold step and can confirm that over a thousand trowels will be available from early August.
We will make a full announcement in the very near future, but hope to provide everyone who needs them with the new archaeology WHS wooden handled 4" trowel. I am currently working on a robust order system where orders and a date of delivery will be confirmed prior to any payments being made.
My wife Maggie is taking full control of this business, and we hope that in time we will provide what you need, when you need it and a price that will make you smile. We are already looking out for competitavely priced and hard to find deals to pass on to you.. from permatrace to small orders of 300 gauge ziplock bags and from scale rules to knee pads. We will put in the work to bring you the equipment you want and ask for... (a forum will be available for feedback and suggestions).
Thats the future though.. until then, rest assured that a large stock of WHS trowels will be available from early August. This is going to be hard work, but it feels like a sensible service to offer.
If you wish to pre-order - please wait for the full details - Watch this space! But don't worry ... we have bought enough for all.
Price for an individual trowel = £14 plus p&p
there will be a discount for larger orders.

Would people see it as sharp business practice or unethical -
If you as a contactor phone up another to get a quote on a job.. so you can undercut on the job to the real client?
Thoughts?
