Sorry to say - and before anyone comments. I have left Britarch - It had become too bigoted and low... with comments on grammer and spelling, publishing private emails, personal attacks and endless arguement on detecting..
real shame...

Apologies for dredging up a hoary old topic (I can't help it, its a disease).
After 160 programmes (a terrifying statistic) Time team have finally spent 3 days finding nothing, which Tony Robinson ([:o)]) treats like an aberration - try living in my world, pal, I've made a career out of finding sod all, and not once did I ever get the chance to make a metal snake.
To those of who who did not see the programme and do not know what I am talking about, and who therefore clearly have a life, I salute you.

Can anyone enlighten me on the laws concerning the sale of antiquities? Is it still legal to sell non-treasure trove items? I ask this because a local shop (to me) is sell various items (roman coins, bronze axes, pottery sherds etc)?? Are they breaking any laws???

Archaid |

Are there any situations where "archaeology" and the archaeological planning system should be ignored or given an easy ride?
I am not talking about proper sites but the very marginal decisions where it is unlikely that anything is there. PPG16 says grants should for example be available for charities but they are not.
Clearly that can be no return to an expectation that diggers work for free for long periods of time.
Should we have archaid where archaeologists donate their services on socially good projects?
There is a charity called planning aid which does just that for the planning system.
Many of the big Units are in fact charities surely they should be willing to take on such projects?
I have a specific BIG PROJECT in mind, the opening ceremony was two days ago, so in line with the AUP I canât identify it fully. The curator was curator like but if they had done a bit of research then the need for a planning condition would have been removed or they could have done the watching brief themselves.
In the said town, home to a university department, a few consultancies and contractors, and the IFA, within the catchment of the two big charity units, within twenty miles of loads more consultancies; it fell to me to help out, together with another small private sector company.
If any of the other managers consultants or even the ifa staff would like to donate to a project building flats for the homeless in their home town they can still do so

There are 29 days to the implementation of the IFA pay rise.
How many companies have told their staff that the pay rise is coming in next month?
Have any companies told their staff they are not going to implement them?
David I think we should monitor this.

Anyone looked at Conservapedia (right wing version of Wikipedia)yet? Searching for archaeology leads straight to a Creationist text. That was a surprise.

Lidar surveys |

What is the consensus out there regarding Lidar surveys? Do they really see through trees - what about dense rhododendrons and bracken? All the websites say so, but are they right...
Has anyone out there had a good experience of using this tool in a commercial environment? A likely use, I suppose, would be a walkover survey for a DBA/EIA, where the ground cover in woodland or heathy country was too dense to see low earthworks.
