standards for treatment of human remains abroad |

after having requested, and received, the photos that troll said he had of poorly archived human remains from a European university excavation abroad, I have to say that I am outraged and disgusted. No collections of artefacts, and particularly human remains, should be treated in this way no matter where they were excavated and stored, and by whom.
We are lucky in this country that there does seem to be a change in attitude over the last 20 years towards the treatment of human remains, but this does not seem to be the case for excavations conducted abroad, whether by British universities or those from other countries. What can we do to change attitudes? What can we do to encourage the implementation of Europe (and world) wide ethics and standards of care for human remains? Gimme your views, whether you're a body person or not, I would love to hear what you all think.

Well I`ll be poked in the nethers with a sharp lettuce! The jobs page appears to be advertyising positions for "experienced" excavators with min 6 months experience for proper wages! Are these a mis-print or do I have to pack me suitcase and chase em for work???

Now bear in mind that this is whimsical, and I would probably imagine well trodden ground, so with either your smartarse or comedians cap on: what period name would we think future archaeologists types would give the period we are currently in?
Saus Age anyone [:o)]?
(I really have worked in the field)

When PPG 16 was introduced it was decided that no new leglislation was neccessary simply existing law to be applied more widely.
You dont actually appeal against PPG 16 just the planning decision and there have been many examples of this happening. Appeal decision donmt create precedent. There have been appeals about preservation in situ for example which are detailed in Smith and Pugh and some other key cases.
Somebody once appealed successfuly that because the costs of archaeology was so high the planning condition requiring archaeology was unreasonable.

Heres one for you chaps and chappess`s,
Having been up to my neck in mud today coz of the damn rain I was wondering is there a eutopic geology out there, the holy grail of surfaces to work on that is easy to work in the wet and a pleasure to work in the baking heat of a sunny summers day. Whats the best and worst geology to work with. Whats the worst you?ve ever dug.
Your views please.
