A new company is about to launch- promising to exploit a niche in commercial archaeology. One service will see tea, coffee and light snacks wheeled to your trench-side. Coffee Sir/Madam? Would you like a context sheet and a biscuit with that? Small find number and a pastry? Would you care for a foot massage or have me polish your helmet?
What on-site service would you like to see introduced? We aim to please...(keep it non-biological you lot!)
1. You look tired and fed up-can I produce your matrix for you?
2. That`s a lot of wet mud, here, hold this hot chocolate whilst I clean up for you...
3. Thats a terrible case of terettes and diahorreahoa sir, here, let me roll you a fag while you stroll off and break things in the padded stress room..

What do you mean by community archaeology? What is the difference with public archaeology? Can school kids do it? Does anyone know any community archaeology projects in urban areas?
I am a student looking into community archaeology and would be interested in peoples thoughts.

THERA Launched |

Just a heads up that BAJR has brought together (and hand picked!!!) 556 courses and practical workshops, MAs to MLitt - Modules to Certificates. A fully searchable database of 113 institutions that leads you to courses in Maritime Archaeology or Building Conservation, from pure Archaeology to Heritage Studies in Education.
This should turn into a cracking recourse, that will self enhance. Spread the word... check your educational institution and see if I have it right... add a course or tell me where I got it wrong. If you are in a University or College, please let the staff know about HERA-Higher Education Resource in Archaeology
The resourse allows you to search by Course, institution, by subject or by keyword, once there the detail page lets you know about what the course is, what you need and a direct link to both the Institutions Contact details as well as a link to the full course specific webpage... then print it out!
Follow the link to check out the exclusive dataset. http://www.bajr.org/Education/HERA.asp
Many thanks to those who tested it.. to those who helped and most of all to Sarah Philips for starting this monumental project.

Does anyone know whether there is a standard 'Away from Home' subsistence rate.
I would hope that accomodation is included and that the rate must only be for eating.
Is there one for London as well?
I am asking on behalf of an enquirer who will be getting ?8 over the normal pay to cover expenses of London.
Any advice?

Archaeology. An art or a science? It was once described as a science run by p*ss-artists! However you see it, I believe that archaeology does not belong within a commercial environment. I also believe that when contractors finish reports, copies should also be sent to the nearest academic institution by law. Discuss...
