The CIfA Graphic Archaeology Group are holding their AGM and a day of discussion events on Saturday 21st March at The Hive in Worcester. If you can't attend, there is an opportunity to showcase your work with a poster presentation (PM for details). This is for Archaeological Illustrators and by Archaeological Illustrators, come and discuss the issues important to you, or just stuff you find interesting. Oh and by the way, the group needs a new Chair, Secretary and Treasurer... any volunteers?
If you'd like to attend please book your tickets here:

Looks like BAJR has another spammer? I'd advise no one to click on the multitude of links hidden in KofeNiz's posts

Seen many of you already... a nd about to head to Wales Next week, before it is Se England and then Scotland.
If I have seen you... hello! It was great... if not... Hello... I will...
All about this:
·
- Minima Rates.
- Training and Skills - and defining the requirements for a basic level digger
- Inability to directly compare the other benefits offered by Companies
- Need to promote archaeology directly to developers. Good news stories, to drag them out of teh Archaeology costs/ slows me down / is of no benefit. ( Did you know that Housing Units sold 30% faster on sites with archaeology promoted..? OR that cost savings to early archaeology can be over £200k? or that communities are more likely to be supportive of development IF there is archaeology carried out first and schools are involved? About time somebody told developers!
On the road..!
The basis of the new BAJR Direction are as follows:
- A Single Minimum Rate starting for G2 staff based on an industry wide ‘standard’
- No other minima
- A UK regional ‘current going rate’ for Fieldstaff, Supervisors and Project Officers (updated every month and displayed on BAJR.
- A tie in with archaeology skills passport for training and skill assessment
- A reactive update for Company data list to allow other less obvious benefits to be highlighted and/or changed.
- A full news service collating all Archaeology News across the sector, Projects, Industry News (including Construction related), Training Opportunities. ( currently online here: http://www.bajrfed.co.uk/bajrpress/ )

I filmed a few more conferences but instead of creating a whole new thread for each one I am just going to be dropping all future videos into this thread- if no one objects too much.
First up a video from the Community Heritage Conference- very interesting conference, except for the opening and closings, the long talks were given by non-professional archaeologists (workshops and short presentations were professionals). Good stuff-

BANR news Has just posted the following article:
Taking part in heritage is good for our happiness and wellbeing, according to this year’s Heritage Counts report published yesterday by English Heritage on behalf of England’s leading heritage organisations, the Historic Environment Forum. Heritage Counts 2014 proves the vital role heritage plays in our national life by measuring its value and impact on individuals and communities....
Click here to read the full article.
So does it make a difference? does it matter. is a happy population - value for money? Can this be used to support Councils? or Museums faced with closure... does this matter at all when it comes to commercial work? should there be a balance of misery?
So many questions..

Imagine a system which is simple. One minima...
no complicated arguments about what a person is expected to do and how that maps to a BAJR G3/4 or what the F###k a AIfA is expected to be able to do...
This protects the base level. and so the most number of people. However, it allows competition to expand to get the best people...
Imagine a map that shows the going rate for Diggers Supervisors and Managers. in regions of the UK, based on an average of the previous 6 months ... Do you see where this is going.?
It also puts the ball in the hands of the employee. While giving the contractors some credit, that they actually do want committed people in post.
This is the way I will be taking BAJR in the next year. A positive, and supportive role. with the same G2 minima protected as ever. But if companies want staff... it is time to bid for them... at all levels
