Is there any way to get access to grey lit, apart from the searches aviable though the internet, do you think it worth just getting in touch with companys and asking if they have info / reports on a certain subject

I think it would really depend on what you are trying to find out. OASIS is pretty good, and has a few methods of searching but obviously it doesn't have every report ever produced on it. If it is a particular area rather than a subject then the local HER/SMR, the Archaeological Investigations Project is also very good. If you are looking at a subject, say a particular type of pottery it would be quite difficult. Contacting units directly might work but the larger ones would probably struggle to look up information on every project they have ever done. I'm probably telling you what you already know! There really should be a better system for finding this sort of information!

can't say too much... buuuuuuuuuuuuuut shall we say a beta system is already being tested.. and with funding could work with ADS to provide just what you are after. was that mysterious? More to follow in October!

Very mysterious,
it might be that there just not a lot of information about the sites i was looking at, but i would just like to not miss anything out.
Ive started out small by sending enquires to the 4 Welsh trusts HER all but one sent me a reply, and only two with any info, one told me i would have to come to them and the last didn't even responed to the their own internet form
So much for public access

One particular unit in the south has now put all their site reorts on their website. It is even linked to google earth so you can see the location of the sites. Very useful. Im not sure if it will be against the rules to name them but I do hope it is a model that other units will follow.
They have also sent us a disc with digital copies of all their reports for the county to include in the HER. Very nice and all without promting or funding
