Just to brighten up a sorry winters day...
I don't know if anyone remembers a thread that ran briefly last summer about the availability of hot weather safety clothing. I took the opportunity whilst in Australia recently to enquire what the Aussies wore as hot weather protective clothing.
I was impressed by a hat visor and neck protector which slips over the top of a conventional UK style safety helmet and by the range of long and short sleeved hi-vis polo shirts and lightweight fleece garments.

So far I have been unable to find a UK supplier but can pass on details of Australian web sites if anyone is interested in making further enquiries.

Hi Kevin, hoped you enjoyed the Sunshine State. The brims are great and even better when soaked in water (natural air conditioning while it evaporates. I have not come across any companies selling hot weather PPE in the UK. However I think if anyone needs the gear the prices are low enough to order through from Australia.

orange and yellow high vis polo shirts are readily available in the UK although I have yet to find them in cotton.
Similarly light weight lemon fleeces are available.
I think the suppliers I have bought them from include

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the Aussie hi-vis clothing has a guaranteed ultraviolet protection factor of UPF50.
I understand that some of the hi-vis polo shirts available in the UK do not carry the same guarantee.
Most Australian sun-protective clothing is made from Lycra and similar man-made materials, as these can block virtually all ultraviolet radiation. (UPF50 denotes that only 2% UVR will get through the material).
Cotton (particularly damp cotton) is apparently a very poor blocker of ultraviolet radiation (as low as UPF2, allowing 50% of UVR through) and is not generally recommended.

What talk is this sun hats and uv this an uv that. Sir Mortimer got through every season in a suit and cravat! We are British dam it we should be digging in vests and short trousers in all weathers. Come on fly the flag!! few more like Morty Id say lets get rid of the Chaff membership of the IFA should have one requirement and one rquirement only, that being a good Terry Thomas impression. And for the ladies a Hatty Jakes impersination maybe?
