WORLD DIGGERS DAY 1st Feb 2012 - BAJR - 14th January 2012
For all those great, under-appreciated archaeologists out there during these winter months, we salute you!
All those tepid cups of tea and vaguely warm shelter we find in site huts will all be worth it once the summer months arrive, or if you are from the 'otherside' (Southern Hemisphere that is) you are gently cooking in your hi-viz as you dream of the cooler months ahead.
Well in your honour February 1st 2012 is Word Diggers Day.

As a sign of unity/protest or just plain silliness I propose, that on the 1st of February 2012, everyone could change their Facebook profile pictures to an image of Indiana Jones, the face of ?Archaeology? itself!
'Why Indi?' I hear you cry! Well, the reason for this whip cracking professor is simple - He is known the world over as an 'Archaeologist' (get over it!) you could put up pictures of your self or other archaeological heroes but here a WDD we are pretty sure most of us do that most of the time already.
Every one with Indiana Jones as their profile picture would make others realise something is going on and perhaps salute you for your commitment to the dream that most people have.
Alternatively, stick up this ready to use Indiana with the WDD logo. ( get it here )
On the 1st February Change your status to something archaeology related? A quote from a book, a film, or something clever.

I think these movies are massive!! Even the mad last one with the UFO stuff!!
It's so close to the reality of everyday archaeology it's frightening.

I think it might be better for WDD to represent the diversity of type of modern day archaeologists, rather than go for the Indian Jones 'stereotype'......that bad choice is surely a bit like representing ethnic diversity, by suggesting it should be symbolised by a golliwog!!
