* Pimm's No. 1 Cup is based on gin and can be served both on ice or in cocktails. It has a dark tea colour with a reddish tint, and tastes subtly of spice and citrus fruit. It is often taken with "English-style" (clear and carbonated) lemonade, as well as various chopped fresh ingredients, particularly apples, oranges, lemons, strawberry, cucumber and mint. Pimm's is also mixed with champagne (or a sparkling white wine), called a "Pimm's Royal Cup". It is 25% alcohol by volume.
o can also be purchased as a pre-mixed fortified lemonade (Pimm's & Lemonade) in 250 ml cans or 1-litre bottles, at 5.4%.
* Pimm's No. 2 Cup was based on Scotch whisky. Currently phased out.
* Pimm's No. 3 Cup is based on brandy. Phased out, but a version infused with spices and orange peel marketed as Pimm's Winter Cup is now seasonally available.
* Pimm's No. 4 Cup was based on rum. Currently phased out.
* Pimm's No. 5 Cup was based on rye whiskey. Currently phased out.
* Pimm's No. 6 Cup is based on vodka. It is still produced, but in small quantities.

I blush to admit that I've only had Pimm's once. There are plans to remedy this but for now I think I'll stick with frozen Margaritas with an umbrella and a plate of nachos.

Church bells calling the faithful to prayer...strawberries for tea. How very Middle England!
EDIT: Meant to say tried the Pimms No3, warmed variety at Cheltenham this year and it is not particularly good (and VERY expensive). I'll stick to Guinness in future!

I've just had strawberries and cream... now... time for some champers... I think I'll ask for this little number to be taken out of the cellar... a Philipponnat NV Royale Reserve Champagne a Champagne composed mainly of Pinot Noir blended with Chardonnay and a small proportion of Pinot Meunier. a rather crisp zesty finish to it... so who's up for a small glass?

We had Scottish strawberries the other day and are planning on some more this week, although most of them are a bit pale at the moment. Strawberries soaked in vodka sound fabulous.

Now if you had fifty quid to spend on a some bottles of wine (yes I know as archeaologists we all have more pressing demands on finances than fermented grape juice )what would you all recomend ( gettting a nice balance between quantity & quality)

Couple of cases of Argentinian Malbec if I wasn't allowed to blow it all on Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne (I'd still have to find another ?25 for that!!):face-approve:
