NVQ in archaeology - BAJR Host - 8th August 2008 what I would love to see are pathways .. routes to particluar posts "I don't have an archaeological imagination.." Borekickers NVQ in archaeology - oldgirl - 8th August 2008 Quote:quote:Originally posted by BAJR Host Part of the problem is (I think) that there are so many (often slightly) different jobs. I was invloved in using the NOS (not the NVQ) as a skills base, which allowed people to identify what they could already do and, in conjunction with the management in the organisation, then identify where they could develop new skills and how. Everyone ended up being really quite enthusiastic about it! NVQ in archaeology - peter noble - 23rd February 2009 Only 6 months late on this reply[:I] which is about average for me I guess. There is another facet to the course. As the community archaeologist for The Mellor Heritage Project and working with volunteers who often have many, many years of practical experience but who have predominantly either had/have a different career or not gone/can't go to uni (for whatever reasons), I feel that the NVQ offers many potential opportunities and is also a meaningful confirmation of the skills which an individual has gained. The course could also help raise the skill base of not only individuals but also the amateur societies to which they belong which would only be of benefit to them, the archaeology and perhaps too the local curatorial bodies. Mellor is in the fortunate postion of being funded by the HLF and as part of our remit are currently funding 6 bursaries for volunteers in the level 3 NVQ. On a personal note I can only say that both the Project and the individuals concerned have enjoyed and profited through the experience. Peter Noble NVQ in archaeology - Julie - 11th August 2009 Quote:quote:Originally posted by the invisible man Re. above; This is really not the case. Whilst the system really requires refinement it does stand at the moment available for speciailisms etc. i myself have the NVQ and i'm a finds specialist. Despite this i voted the second option, it IS a good idea but i cant see the uptake being meaningful enought to make any thing out of it. Its money at a time when many are struggling and for a current non-necessity i just dont think it will take off. I personally feel it could never takes the place of my other degrees (including Masters) but at the end of the day this is not or never claimed to be its purpose. It gives me a sense of practical achievement not associated with the more academic side of degrees....(its also an easy for for an employer to see you do have experience in a practical environment, report writing etc. including grey lit.) (also a reply WAY late after topic began....) NVQ in archaeology - BAJR Host - 11th August 2009 never too late!
