First 2009 web award - - BAJR Host - 12th January 2009 I hope by the end... we may be able to collate what does work, what does not..... what should be up and what is often not. The end of this can result in more than jsut a web award... but a look at the 'perfect' website resource.. for community -arch Most interesting... looks like the word is out from the Shorewatchers! >>>> I love it! "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton First 2009 web award - - drpeterwardle - 12th January 2009 Have to say I am unimpressed with any of them. Knowing nothing about community archaeology I am still none the wiser in many repects. We seem to be being asked to vote for who is doing the best community archaeology (no bad thing)rather than the best web resource. Sorry - not voting Peter First 2009 web award - - BAJR Host - 12th January 2009 should be one in the same in this context... and if there are failures or ommisions.. then it can be highlighted (or praised if its good) and they can all benefit. Already one of the nominees is waiting to see comments.. and will revise the website... "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton First 2009 web award - - BAJR Host - 13th January 2009 Come on ... this is turning into a Race with only one horse! or is it just heads and tail above the others? "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton First 2009 web award - - Wibblehead - 13th January 2009 Quote:quote:Originally posted by BAJR Host Well, in terms of presenting a community project to the public, and providing the participants with what they need, it's a very good site. However if the web award is for a site which explains all about community archaeology, or is about a provider of community archaeology services, its not so good. Maybe some people want some clarification in what we're looking for? :face-huh: ~~~~~ Thunder rolled. ... It rolled a six. First 2009 web award - - BAJR Host - 13th January 2009 Thats a good point, that Maggie pointed out... if you want to get involved, it should be there in big letters at the front... WANT TO GET INVOLVED??? PRESS ME NOW!! York are now summoning support... watch out Shore watch! "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton First 2009 web award - - Maggie - 17th January 2009 If I was looking for a community project to take part in I would be wanting to see the information clearly presented. I would also want to see that there were projects actually happening. There is nothing worse than going to a web page and seeing that the last project happened in 2004. For some people who are thinking about getting involved but might like a little encouragement the smallest things could put them off. The feel of a website needs to be friendly, approachable and have clear direction. It needs to be easy to navigate and not take you back to the same old negative information like "no volunteer positions available at the moment". I realise that a lot of this comes down to funding and probably the IT departments at local councils but sometimes it feels that people bandy the word "community" about in order to fulfill a void but offer very little in return. However, there are some council websites which are very good. I had a look at the Notts one and it was very clear and had the information available for people to actually get invovled. Try going to your local county website and see if you can find the information about how to get invovled. Remember to put yourself in the position of someone who has no prior knowledge and see where this leads you. First 2009 web award - - BAJR Host - 18th January 2009 have brought forward the closing date to 1 st Feb... "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton First 2009 web award - - historic building - 19th January 2009 I take the hint probably having one of the worst web sites in the country. Our web development team have been 'outsourced' and she is on long term sick leave. First 2009 web award - - Wibblehead - 19th January 2009 We virtually had to resort to breaking knuckles to get one of the community archs on the web course and appropriate permissions to update the site. It's only because of that really that we appear on the website at all. We got lucky i think! We still have problems with getting things approved, with the rigidity of corporate design, and with putting things on there that people can download. It is a tricky area; and i think one that community groups can make the most of if they have the know-how and resources, because they don't have the same hoops to jump through. That could be one of the reasons why the Shorewatch site is so clear; because it was designed specifically for a purpose. Not that I know even the first thing about web design! [:o)] |
