Isn't statements like that banned by the Geneva convention? I think it comes under cruel and unusual punishment mate. Very jealous as I come from the City just up the road.

I used to have a string/mesh viz vest and I had to replace it when they changed the legislation and said they had to be solid, are you sure these are legal in the UK?

Regarding legality...I agree with previous comments regarding H&S but can see a place for string vest if worn as substitute for Hi-Vis tabard i.e over the top of clothing rather than as [u]only</u> item of clothing.

We have a city triathon here over the weekend and I have seen some of the cycling trainists on the main roads wearing a very similar vest as a hi-vis garment.....and not to be forgotten is that hi-vis vests (and swimming shorts) are worn by swimmers and surfers here in Australia. So I would say that whilst not an essential item of safety clothing in the UK a hi-vis string vest might have its occassional uses.....Do I sound like a salesmen?

Kevin, as the original (and apparently only) person who wanted to know where to get Hi Viz string vests, good work, thankyou!

In regard to the howls of outrage over H&S legality etc etc, it was, oddly enough, a request in jest. Mostly.

I last saw them about ten years ago, when I was working in a basement under hot lights in deep shafts and headings and it was damn hot and very, very humid. They would have been great there, in the days when you could take your T shirt off, didn't have to wear gloves and you could actually drink water on site. They were being modelled by a pair of miners who clearly enjoyed their Guinness more than their shoring, but even so I could see the potential.
