The Force is strong in this one!

I wasn't trying to be smart (and I was an 'archaeologist' for many, many years before I was turned). I was simply starting from the point of view that if I asked a message board to help me carry out a fundamental part of my job, my line manager would kick my *rse for not coming to him first. (He is an all seeing presence here, so he'd know).

Again, I wasn't having a pop. I just believe that you should keep your fingers off the keyboard until you have exhausted the normal channels. Obviously if your boss is useless, then you may have no choice but to ask here.

Remember; you are the Padawan, he is the Jedi Master. It's his job to train you well, not to let you fall for the charms of the Dark Side.
