Duchess you may have a point there. When MoLAS advertised an identical geo-archaeologist post on BAJR last November, the advert stated that the post was BAJR Grade 5. I see that it has now been devalued to BAJR Grade 4. Maybe this is one way of getting around BAJR salary minima - drop the grading!!
Not the first time that it has happened recently either. Gloucestershire County unit advertised for an Assistant Project Officer at BAJR Grade 3 in February, offering a salary nearly ?1000 pa lower than an advert for the same post but at BAJR Grade 4, that went out in August 2005.
I picked up both fluctuations in salary as part of my OutwageUK survey (http://www.freewebs.com/outwageuk). I am surprised that the relevant trade unions in both organisations haven't been as assiduous, as it seems to be their members (and potential members) that ultimately lose out.

I will call MoLAS... though I already talked with them and they said that the advert states 'from' and it would depend on the applicant.... now what I may request is that the wording (or title) is altered to reflect this.
Many may say this is a way round grading.... well perhaps this could be the year that actual grades are attached to specific job titles. ?? It is what I will be suggesting at the IFA conf (... you did not hear it here) but I will of course require support.

?17,938 - ?25,252 per annum pro rata (plus ?200 clothing) dependant on exp. , fixed-term until 31 December 2006
They are indeed looking for someone who would be at the higher end (senior) but would accept an 'entry level' person (ie the lower rate.
They are tied to a pay system that was negotiated by .... wait for it...... PROSPECT.. ( cue wry smile)
If anyone has real issue, then Laura Schaff has agreed to answer them directly... just email her at molas.
I also have to take blame here (victim of success!) as Laura was unable to use the online add job system due to my database sytem groaning under the strain (access is not meant for heavy usage) she had to desperately type it all out and email me the jobs...
Needless to say, in May this year BAJR II is launched using MYSql which is a heavy duty database and much more stable.
Any chance of me making a proper wage out of BAJR
