Anyone able to represent BAJR in Cambridge? - BAJR Host - 16th November 2006 woman !!.... in archaeology..!!!. good god.... next you will be telling me that King George is dead.!! } Seriously though. If you can then you might. Would you like to spread the word in ireland? "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Anyone able to represent BAJR in Cambridge? - troll - 25th November 2006 It is extremely important that undergrads are given the opportunity to understand just what they may be letting themselves in for.Whilst I accept what 1man is saying.....for sweeping generalisations, I would refer the honourable gentlemean to the mission statement of the IFA.Whilst I would very much like to see the world in 1mans terms, I`m afraid that I don`t and further, honesty and a sense of realism will be key to change in the future.I have no intention of embarking upon a myopic rantathon in future presentations and indeed never have.Lets go out and talk to/listen to the next generation of archies..... ..knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity..(imam ghazali,ayyuhal-walad) Anyone able to represent BAJR in Cambridge? - Steve Walsh - 26th November 2006 I think 1 man is right - if as I suspect Troll is suggesting that all consultants/curators project managers/supervisors are to be slated as 'muppets' and that the next generation of archaeologists should follow the edict according to Troll - then I fear for the future - However, I totally agree with Troll that s sense of realism should be portrayed - its just who's realism???? A trowel is a thing to lust for! Anyone able to represent BAJR in Cambridge? - troll - 26th November 2006 The important thing is to communicate with undergrads.I`m not remotely interested in getting involved in yet another diatribe on here with you or anyone else. For clarity- an unregulated industry operating in a competative tendering environment with optional standards will inevitably result in muppetry.Never once have I branded all with the same iron. What really crawls up my dark spaces is when people deny and defend a system that is deeply flawed. I will continue to communicate with undergrads as I have done for the past ten years.1Man will undoubtedly offer his take on the world we operate in and I openly encourage him to do so.I would`nt dream of dictating the content of his offerings. So, before we descend into yet another round of pubescent and pointless claim and counter-claim, lets just agree to talk to whoever invites us to...... ..knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity..(imam ghazali,ayyuhal-walad) Anyone able to represent BAJR in Cambridge? - Steve Walsh - 26th November 2006 I agree with you. My point was that if you were to adress a group of undergraduates and say 1 Man 1 desk was to address a different groups - i would imagine two very different views would be portrayed, as you would expect. However, who is 'right'?? - providing these view points are presented as opinions of the individual this does not matter. All I am saying is that those who do discuss a potential career in archaeology with potential future archs have a tremendous responsibility to portray as accurate a picture - good and bad bits. But this should not (in my opinion b4 you or anyone else starts) consist of painting the worst picture based on one individuals personal experiences. Career talks should involve a certain degree of research into all of the potential avenues and career paths which people could take - ebven if the person presenting the 'talk' has very form beliefs or opinions. Basically i am in no way having a go here - what Im suggesting is that we have to be very careful when doing t his type of thing - the responsibility is huge - thats all A trowel is a thing to lust for! Anyone able to represent BAJR in Cambridge? - BAJR Host - 26th November 2006 Quite right Steve.. a unified approach that 'we' as BAJR can all agree to.. delived in each persons 'style' but still keeping to the principal. The responsibility is great.. as the speaker is not representing themselves.. they are representing BAJR. which is very different. Fortunately I am off to York in March to do a similar presentation.. so I will have to put together a standard document (and goodie bag) to do it... However... before I do... it is important that it truely represents BAJR... the views, ideas, sparks and identity that is here to be tapped. So after I haev written a concept... I will put it up here for discussion and editing... Unless anyone else fancies creating an Outline... what should we be telling them.? "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.."
