Open Source software - BAJR - 17th October 2011 Oh and this is what I do all my audio editing - for my podcasts and video sound tracks - WE need this now-a-days to further enhance our profile. Audacity : http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Audacity is a free software, cross-platform digital audio editor and recording application. It is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and BSD. Open Source software - Oxbeast - 19th October 2011 http://whdb.com/2008/the-top-50-proprietary-programs-that-drive-you-crazy-and-their-open-source-alternatives/ top 50 list of proprietary programmes and their open source alternatives. Open Source software - Boxoffrogs - 20th October 2011 This is a really useful idea, well done you guys! Open Source software - BAJR - 23rd November 2011 PTLens: http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/ PTLens is software that corrects lens pincushion/barrel distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberration, and perspective. Very useful for correcting architectural images or landscape shots. (although not strictly Open Source - at $25 for a licence it is near as free! - you can also try it out for free for 10 images!) Audacity used to be one of my favourite bits of software - well still is in many ways. It works really well. However computers pre-loaded with Windows 7 contain a stereo blocker so that although you can edit audio files created in stereo on Audacity you can now only record from your computer onto Audacity in mono. Open Source software - BAJR - 23rd November 2011 Hmmm... thats odd... I use it for my podcast, and actually downsize to mono. ANyway... For the TAG people... try this Great for conference submissions. A non linear presentation - and it is free up to 100 meg. No powerpoint for me! this is non linear and pretty damn sexy PREZI http://prezi.com/ Visualize your ideas. Pan Left, Move Right, Zoom-in on a detail, or Zoom-out to show the big picture. Open Source software - Anna_Hodgkinson - 18th December 2011 This is a great thread! At OA North we've recently produced a load of free PDF manuals on using open (mainly GIS) source software within archaeology. They include guides to total station and GPS survey, data download, using gvSIG and QGIS (a variety of tasks), enhancing maps and illustrations in Inkscape, databases in PostgreSQL and PostGIS, 3D visualisation etc. They are all on the OA library (search for GIS), but I've also summarised them on my website. Open Source software - Sparky - 18th December 2011 What a brilliant resource. Thanks Anna! Open Source software - BAJR - 19th December 2011 Nice one... Thanks Anna |
