Bigger is better and I'm looking forward to the inevitable day when all our gear goes super-size, pencils as thick as your thigh and eight feet long (with a rubber bigger than a basketball,) hand-tapes as big as a haversack, plumb bobs lifted by cranes and dumpy levels the size of the Hobby-Eberly telescope.
Any passing engineers/cartographers will hide their total stations in shame.

Why has the surveyor got bare feet in mr CR's drawing?
As for pencils my favourite was a 9H more of an engraving tool than a pencil so sharp you could perform surgery with it

Haven't a clue. Maybe the total station cost so much he can't afford shoes anymore.

I actually did buy bell tents, but could not see out of them... then I tried gazebos, which worked fine until I was overrun by a womens institute bun stall. I then gave up and went for this

Correct... another country where rain is near unheard of!!
As to charcoal, I was hoping you would use that pesky stuff that keeps on getting sampled on site... ( get it before it is numbered mind or there is hell to pay! )
