Prehistoric Herefordshire... - drpeterwardle - 17th July 2007 Cant believe I am reading the comments here or elsewhere by archaeologists. I cant think of a single similar structure in the UK it is clealry unusual. It is by definition nationally important by virtue of rarity. It clearly merits preservation in situ until proved not to nationally important. The evaluation and planning process is meant to assess the importance of such sites and prevent situations like this. Peter Prehistoric Herefordshire... - Smaze - 17th July 2007 Thrupp Trackway, Abingdon, excavated 1997,.....and they've got three. :-) No Sleep Till Natural. Prehistoric Herefordshire... - vulpes - 18th July 2007 The site is by my understanding being preserved in situ beneath the new road. Preservation in situ is preservation in situ underneath a road or not. If the site was in an arable field prior to its discovery it would surely have been in far more danger of destruction than it is now. As it is it should remain cosy and safe for future investigation under a nice earth bund. Prehistoric Herefordshire... - Gagumph - 18th July 2007 Does any know why this is not just a burnt mound slumped in a ditch??? Prehistoric Herefordshire... - the invisible man - 18th July 2007 Anyone know how it was dated? You don't know what you've got till it's gone. Prehistoric Herefordshire... - vulpes - 18th July 2007 Try reading this: http://www.smr.herefordshire.gov.uk/news_events2/RotherwasNews2.htm Not really a 'pot person'. |
