Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Smaze - 3rd March 2008 Unitof1 has an interesting point ..how many zip lock plastic bags do archaeologist use..? i know we try and re-use them where i work.. but the museum's want new and clean ones. Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - garybrun - 3rd March 2008 There is a lot of talk about climate change and what we all can do to stop it. Nothing is ever mentioned of the bombs that are dropped in Iraq, Afghanistan and all the other countries around the world nor the planes that fly to drop them. I'm not sure that saving or using plastic bags for the rest of my life time will not produce as much C02 as one of those bombs. Do we have our priorities in the right place??? Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Oxbeast - 3rd March 2008 The next time someone offers me a free bomb when I'm shopping in the supermarket, I'll refuse that as well, Gary.[8D] China recently banned bags, mainly for the reason that they were blocking sewers and gutters, making sanitation and flooding much worse. Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - garybrun - 3rd March 2008 In Norway they charge us for plastic bags at the supermarket. We keep them in a draw at home and reuse them when we go shopping so as cutting down the use and purchase of them. I also think they shouldn't be free and paying for their use is a good thing. We even have environmental taxes on goods we buy so they can be recycled when they are finished with and we have the right to return or fridge, tv or other goods back to the shop were we bought them so they can recycle them. My point was we get so interested in ban the 4x4 or plastic or other stuff... but governments are destroying the world which makes are little efforts rather futile. Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - mercenary - 3rd March 2008 1Man1desk wrote "Not so - plastic bags are made from oil. It takes energy (= greenhouse gas emissions) to extract and transport the oil, to refine it into the raw materials for plastic bag manufacture, and to make and distribute the bags themselves. There are also waste gasses produced during all of those stages. The bags then decay (albeit very slowly), releasing more gasses." I am well aware of all these points. They could apply to almost everything made by makind. I suppose my point is that limiting plastic bag use goes much further to solving a litter problem than it does to solving climate change. By an extremely wide margin. Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Jammy Johnny - 3rd March 2008 The use of paper-made bags sounds gr8, But not so gr8 when you bring home 10 plastic bottles of fizzy pop in one, And not to mention all the dried packets of pasta, etc etc. JJ Dum Spiro Spero Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - BAJR Host - 4th March 2008 OK... lets broaden it to everything... ! oh... hang on... lets not. My wife has informed me she is able to multi-task and by doing that is able to not use plastic bags, recycle glass, compost food, try and use the car only when it would take longer than a day to walk there and be in disagreement with war in general and our british wars in particular. So whether its bombing afghanistan or stopping litter .. I actually don't think that humans can make any difference any more.... however that does not stop me from trying to make the world a little nicer. A little less polluted...throw away type place. Thats the bottom line.... not so much whether it will save the planet (the planet will get on fine without us) but whether we want to roast/freeze in less screwed up enviroment... JJ s right about the pacaging... though I must confess that instead of a binbag a week... we now produce 1/4 of that.. by shopping in local shops and buying fresh food... and I weened myself off fizzy water sadly onto wine ! JJ Dum Spiro Spero Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - trowelhead - 4th March 2008 Never mind the turtles if they get rid of plastic bags what am I going to keep my feet dry with when the Para boots start to wear. On many a site the old plastic bag kept my feet dry when used as a barrier twixed sock an damp. [8D] Close enough for a country job! Plastic Bags!!!!!!!!!!!!! - BAJR Host - 4th March 2008 this may be a leap ... but the wellington boot has now been authorised for distribution I believe this invention will catch on, as the premise is that the water is not allowed ingress, due to the moulded natrue of the rubberised exterior... or so they say!
