For all the IFA advertising and crude marketing seen on this site for some time now, the end result is still the same: the IFA in my opinion have had little or no positive/tangible impact upon the profession.Standards are appalling, some IFA members are extraordinarily incompetent and RAOs can be little more than laughable badges of convenience.The organisation itself seems more interested in "silencing the critics" than facing reality. In my humble opinion- BAJR "organisation-not individual" should retain its independence from such an inert and faceless club. I`m not remotely interested in endless diatribes defending an organisation that does`nt take archaeology seriously enough to institute change.When it gets off it`s arse-fine.Until then, they should expect criticism from those who see reality every day.Mr Hosty has joined the IFA and of course, his efforts and approach must be applauded and supported.Bajr has not (to my knowledge) joined the IFA and if it does, I for one would see this as a huge travesty.

Perhaps so, but I for one agree with much that is said in those diatribes, and don't usually feel the need to weigh in. I suspect there are others out there with similar feelings.

There may be others that share your viewpoint and don't feel the need to weigh in. On the other hand, there could easily be a silent majority who are happy with the IFA but do not feel the need to add extra defence in the light of 1man1desk's fairly comprehensive responses to the anti-IFA rants. To deal with those points in turn:
1. What "IFA advertising and crude marketing?" All posts by IFA officials on BAJR that I have seen appear to be honest attempts to answer questions raised by BAJR-ites or provide information of the sort requested. Troll has made no attempt to engage with any of the IFA's points, because it is easier to continue to rant without actually joining a constructive discussion.
2. Standards, IFA-member/RAO incompetence: Troll constantly makes these generalised attacks and allegations, but won't provide any evidence, either here, to the IFA directly, to Mr Hosty, or to county curators. I therefore place no credence on what he says. That doesn't mean that there aren't problems - I am well aware of them - just that I don't give credence to unsubstantiated allegations, no matter how often repeated.
3. "Silencing the critics" - so what have the IFA done to try and silence the critics? As far as I can see, the organisation itself and some individual members (like me) have tried to contribute to a constructive debate (unlike Troll). No one has tried to silence anyone - although at times I personally have asked Troll to "put up or shut up", just out of frustration.

I`m not willing to put my career at risk to prove a point to 1man1desk and neither am I willing to accept that offerings as a witness can be seen as mere "rants".One of the main reasons that nothing has changed is simply that the "prove it or shut it" brigade are quite happy to travel the same endless verbal circles without confronting any of the real issues.There are plenty of organisations in this country that excuse inaction/incompetence etc by dressing the issue with endless words.I openly invite 1man1desk to join me in the trenches-come and see the reality.

Well, I see the reality in the trenches on a regular basis, and unlike Troll I have put my nose over the parapet and made official complaints - which have resulted in official action.
'Witness' statements that involve generalised allegations about multiple un-named companies are not witness statements - they are rants. I know you can't name-and-shame publicly, but you can report to the authorities without any risk to your career.
