do you mean freelance/short term specialists, rather than all osteo's/surveyors/ceramicist/illustrators including those on permanent contracts? i.e. the main criteria for full membership is not being a permanent staff member?

My contracts got another 10 months to run, which I suppose is short term. Its a lot more short term than my mortgage anyway.

I feel we are already in the main debate.. adn one that needs quickly and reasonably hammered out...

Everyone can be a member...

However, the point of this is to represent those who (for whatever reason ) are currently in a state of non-representation... freelancers, sole traders, short term contract workers etc... so to be fair - it can be said that those who have 'permanent' employment, who have pension rights, paid holidays etc... who can be a member of a union or who are in an RO or can have their IfA subs paid by their employers are already in a position of representation... HOWEVER... BF is not meant to be an exclusive club - as the ideas and the experieince of the many is of great importance.

Think of it this way.... the Liberals don't vote on Labour Party issues (that affects just them) -- however everyone has a vote on parlimentary policy.. (that affects everyone)

Perhaps "short term contract workers" could be changed to fixed term contract workers, that would also pull in those people on 12-18 month contracts such as community heritage officers, etc, who might otherwise feel that the term only referred to field staff.

voting... structure of council .... requirements of membership ............
