How about a bit on what real historical "anarchism" was/is about? Seems to me that if we are to be the butt end of the politically misinformed-we may as well put a few facts on the table first! Interesting is`nt it-rock the boat, be vocal or take a different view and hey presto!!! someone feels the need to pronounce you as an "ist" of some description. I for one am not an "ist" and frankly, am not remotely interested in the rantings of the blind.

An ex-anarchist once explained to me (a non-anarchist) that the perfect example of anarchy 'at work' in the modern world was international postage.
When you buy a stamp the money only goes to your own national post office, yet other countries' post offices agree to deliver mail to addresses there. Likewise our own post office delivers mail posted in far-off lands. All without formal international agreements or any money changing hands.
Not sure how 'anarchist' that is, or how much longer that will remain true with impending privatisation, but there we are.

Your colleague makes a good analogy.One small issue however-our stamps bear the Queen`s head.A small picky observation but in general-a goodly example! As I`m busy sanding down wooden floors in me mams house-give me a couple of days for my fingertips to re-attach and if anyone`s interested, a few facts and figures on historical British Anarchism shall appear.As an aside- I feel that there is certainly some historical precedent for emmitting "those bloody anarchists!" outbursts.In my past life, we were called everything from anarchists to "urban terrorists".It`s a shame that the unenlightened have`nt bothered to do their research:anarchy (the political/ideological construct-as opposed to the printed hoody variety) has been at the forefront of British political evolution since at least the 19th Century. To some, the term is a welcome compliment. I don`t believe for a minute that the subscriber speaks for the other organisations mentioned in the text either. By the subscribers use of terminology, I assume that an open and free discussion of current professional issues involving most arms of the heritage industry is seen as anarchism? Silliness abounds.
