A wind problem - 1man1desk - 12th June 2006 Interesting topic, and one that I have had to deal with fairly recently (although before the EH guidance, which I have just picked up from a previous post and not yet read), in a project where the key archaeology impacts were visual ones on the setting of SAMs and other sites. We resolved the issue by working closely with a landscape architect and using a hybrid methodology, which we agreed with EH in advance. We assessed the 'sensitivity' of a site to visual impact separately from its importance (thus dealing with the problem of whether an invisible monument has a setting). The landscape architect assessed the 'dominance' of the development in views from specific locations that were agreed with the curator and were important in relation to specific monuments. The grades of sensitivity and dominance were used together in a matrix to assess the significance of the impacts. 1man1desk to let, fully furnished A wind problem - Orkynowot - 13th June 2006 Orkynowot has wind problem too, mainly because he beans. Woul;d like to know if there are beans out there that dont give you wind problems, though a huge wind turbine may clear the awful stench out of cave. May god go with you in all the dark places you must walk. A wind problem - beamo - 13th June 2006 1man These types of hybrid methodology are probably the way forward and I have seen a few efforts of variable quality. Many consultants have developed their own approach based on experience, but each time an application goes to inquiry the validity of the approach is questioned as there is no 'official' sanction of the methodology. Don't get too excited about the thought of reading the EH guidance - the sense of anticipatuion greatly outweighs the substance, and it doesn't contain any of the useful stuff from the PAN45 document regarding distances and visual impacts.
