he could also go to where I work, plenty of dead people, you never feel alone, but you don't have to engage them in conversation...

I bet you still talk to them anyway though Sniper? - I know I used to mutter away to the Skellies when I was digging them up.

treatment of Human remains - Tim - 3rd November 2005

It takes 1-2 days to excavate/record a Skelly properly depending on the depth/quantity and matrix of the grave fill, position and preservation of the body, presence of neonates and grave goods.

Don't bother trying to accurately plan a burial (with a planning grid) the inaccuracies are enormous and it takes 1-2 days to draw a skelly even with 10% discrepancy in accuracy.

Take a vertical photo (largest format camera possible) tied in by the site grid (visible nails in photo). Large format, bellows cameras can be adjusted to remove perspective distortion.

Plans can be drawn/traced from the photos using AutoCad or Illustrator or by using a traditional light box

cheers for that link Tim, I will have a good look when I get a chance. I notice that one of my sites is on it though, but I'm not telling you which one! I also agree entirely with what you say about length of time to excavate and record a skelly and the planning issue. Much easier and more effective to vertically photograph the skelly and plan the grave cut afterwards.
and yes, curator kid, I definitely talk to my skellies, and apologise if i drop a bit of them...

Once worked for a firm where the skelly storage room was blessed by as many different pastors/priests/Budhist monks/Imams as possible. Silence was also maintained. Beats the living (no pun intended)Big Grin daylights out of some of the miserable storage commercial units provide........

and speaking of storage of human remains, you may all want to have a look at this. Some more guidelines to add to our collection

Thanks Tim, this makes me feel much better about my skelly plans which I do quick (cuz I have to) and owe more to my artistic skills than my drafting skills. If it's going to be inaccurate anyway...
