Surely that makes no difference to a tender price as smaller operations could equally do the same? It is not illegal or immoral to take advantage of economies of scale.....smaller organisations have other advantages!!

The whole system has been managed from day one to be as cheap as chips by the public service, thats why they moved into the charity education system and moved the curatorial responsilities out of the museums. These systems were proportionally heavly subsidies particularly in their start up costs and have enjoyed numerous indemnaty covers and infilicted working practises into the archaeological culture to turn most sites into pantomines. That small firms can undercut these farces is because the standards of standing around in a field are not very dificult mimic particularly as this carver points out
Quote:deploy antiquated two-man trenches or test pits in which little will be seen, but nobody will realise it
where carver is being less than genuine is this is how all archaeology is managed once you have won the tender. Nobody will realise it. This isnt evil its the truth. It would be madness to do other wise. You have got three days and you have to pay for hoildays and the cpd. Lets measure the long axis of every pebble on site.

no - that is not what i mean. the quest for turnover is driving down prices. who and what do you think will benefit least?

The quest for turn over is driving prices down
Admit it you have a lot of chimpanzees and a typewriter or is a lot of typewriters and a chimpanzee, ooh I get it right somehow.
I mostly work off loans. I off set the interest against tax. I take out loans to try to smooth out cash flow. This month it's mostly road tax and insurance. Last month income was less than car tax and insurance. turnover is none existent. Where are you little old ladies, I show you good time

Could be Unitof 1's Little Old ladies have cash flow problems and when presented with a lower price than Unit can work for they will go with the chimp in the flash jacket who can stand around looking into a hole in a knowledgable fashion. Or the large gorilla who offers to do it at a cut price as long as the Little old lady spreads the word amongst her friends and comits to using "Gorilla Enterprises" in the future.
