Oh, don't worry Dino, I sold my (horrible expression) 'transferable skills'... Basically I think this crowd were after cannon-fodder that was local, and my CV kinda turned up at the right time. That's luck I guess. But to me it's a step on a path, irrespective of what they see it as. I'll learn stuff, they'll get a loyal (if rather unfit) digger. Win all around.

Hay pals. So this is how it works.. Some out of town construction firm tenders for a job. Five fully qualified engineers one project manager for five weeks. But to win the job they had to cut the margins, screw down the living away from home allowances, made the engineers travel to and from the site in their own time, but it still wasn't enough. So they decided to look locally for a few engineers. Couldn't find any and they would want the same pay and conditions as the miserable engineers that they had forced to work away from home with a few confidential sweeteners. oh what to do. if only they could get somebody to wlak around pretending to be an engineer, lead them along with promise of future work, of course because they was local they couldnt expect the same pay and conditions as the real engineers- just let them mix the cement. Fingers crossed that the hospital will stand up. Mean while local construction firm lays of a few of its engineers.
Obviously this is a fraudulent scenario that wouldnt exist in the construction industry but hay welcome to the world of archaeology what did you say about shovelling with the best of them?

@ Unitof1 - if you haven't realised that yet, then welcome to the real world. It's shite if you actually care about what you do, but we all make the best of it we can. If people weren't so mercenary, maybe we'd all be in a better place?

who said anything about ill eagal. As you can see this site if full of people bending over backwards to welcome you, encouraging you. We cant wait for you to follow in our footsteps. when there was no archaeology work I worked in construction my self. Mostly rebuilding chimneys in Lewisham, a bit of dry lining Gatwick (and that was after a degree and masters in archaeology). Anyway sometime probably Monday they should introduce you to recording stuff. Don't worry about it.
