What are the three core skills a new digger needs - Marc Berger - 29th June 2015
Quote:Not every archaeological job requires a driving licence surely?
That's true but if you don't have a driving licence then what are you restricted to 1. being employed and 2. can only go to jobs that somebody else has probably arranged. Would you say that they were predominantly post application excavation? And probably long stay within largish teams. If you survive the five years into supervisor-project officer-manager you will have very little experience of picking up clients and dealing with writing wsi for them let alone taking out any professional indemnity insurance. Commercial archaeology is littered with such people, in fact I would say that there are still a disproportionate number without a driving licence living off a fantasy that being a passenger and organising car sharing is as good as being in a union. Let me guess Liberal democrat, communist or something in between? What you want to ask is why any capitalist pig would want to have such none self reliants on the pay roll ?

sod the driving - if you once fell over a trowel you can have a job so long as you dont care where and for how long. uber units are currently loosing as many as they are hiring and hiring fewer than they need in the field. looks like a fine summer for travellers

It may be a slightly sad reflection on the ladies, but it did, ahem, occasionally work... ...only occasionally though...

Well MY career is certainly in ruins!
Unless you get lucky, most sites are hard to get to without wheels. It's all about having as many strings to your bow as possible.
