Draft Heritage Protection Bill - voice of reason - 6th April 2008 Indeed, though that may be covered in the replacement Planning guidance (replacing PPG 16) I can see that one consequence of the Bill is that LPAs are going to be 'burdened' with need to deal with Heritage Asset consents and we may well see the exacerbated lumping together of Building Conservation and Archaeology in individual officers, where archaeology tends to suffer as poor relation. Draft Heritage Protection Bill - BAJR Host - 6th April 2008 Hummm... do I sense a conservation officer 'trying' to give archaeology advice... if the LPAs are to be required to give Asset consent... where does that cash come from? Do we (as a general forum) have any particluar comments / queries and the like that can be asked? "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Draft Heritage Protection Bill - voice of reason - 6th April 2008 ahh, but they're all multi-skilled "Historic Environment Professionals" - the idea of being a specialist in a particular discipline is so 2007, don't you know... reaping what some "curators" have sown I fear Draft Heritage Protection Bill - BAJR Host - 6th April 2008 Just as well I'm off! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Draft Heritage Protection Bill - voice of reason - 7th April 2008 A simple test - when you are at a party and someone asks what do you do for a living, do you say - "I'm an Archaeologist" or "I'm an Historic Environment Professional"? Draft Heritage Protection Bill - BAJR Host - 7th April 2008 The IFA have uploaded the Archaeology Forum's initial response which has been sent in response to the draft Heritage Protection Bill: http://www.archaeologists.net/modules/icontent/inPages/docs/Response%20to%20draft%20HP%20Bill.v3.doc I quote from part "The Forum is keen to work with government and English Heritage to develop this guidance, ensuring that it clearly sets out #8226; the functions that a local authority historic environment service should provide #8226; that it is reasonable for the planning process to require opportunities for public participation #8226; that it is reasonable, where appropriate, for the planning process to require commercial work to be conducted by accredited historic environment organisations or individuals as clear statements on these policies are key components of an effective heritage protection system. " read the rest from the link provided there is also a Response to Minister for Heritage, National Assembly for Wales http://www.archaeologists.net/modules/icontent/inPages/docs/Response%20to%20draft%20HP%20Bill.v2.doc "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Draft Heritage Protection Bill - Weegie - 7th April 2008 One thing I didn't realise, which has a bearing on earlier contributions to this discussion, is that the bill as published is incomplete. The version introduced to Parliament for debate will apparently include more on Conservation Areas and Local Designation. Draft Heritage Protection Bill - BAJR Host - 9th April 2008 If anyone has any specific comments to make... I am off to an IFA Council meeting next week.. let me know either here or email me info@bajr.org "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Draft Heritage Protection Bill - m300572 - 10th April 2008 "As ever, having an 'HER' (dreadful jargon concoction)is no guarantee of employing a senior and experienced archaeologist to give DC advice based on it." On the other hand, the Historic Environment Records Officer has an enviable set of intials Unsung heritage heroes anyone??[?] Draft Heritage Protection Bill - Windbag - 15th April 2008 Pardon my ignorance on the subject, but what's the difference between "summary conviction" and "conviction on indictment"? |
