63. Never , ever tell someone sitting next to you (on a train/plane etc) what you do for a living
64. Never fart on a 5 hour plane journey home then accidentally press the steward button
65. Don`t take on a P.O position without seeing the project design/method statement first
66. If you can avoid it-don`t work for units that advertise for "experienced" archaeologists with 6 months...usually infers that their P.O s have 9 months experience...
67. Don`t get into ridiculous amounts of debt by imagining that doing an MA will get you places

When planning on top of large structures on a windy day make sure you have wear a backpack full of heavy things to stop the planning board from acting like a sail

75 Wrap your trowel handle in colourful tape, preferably the nobbly sort for good grip. You might look like a bit of a tw*t to start with but when your mate's searching the spoil heap for their trowel you can smile smugly.
76 para boots might look cool but they are not safety boots and certainly not mattock proof.
77 when digging a stiff and you get to the knee caps pop them into your coat pockets (right in right etc) then put them back when you are ready for the photograph. If you didn't do this avoid your photo being used for publication - see recent British Archaeology magazine for embarressing example [:I]
78 When filling in context sheets write neatly in print, preferably in capitals.
79 Learn how to use a camera properly. Avoid automatic settings.
80 Drink loads of water in the summer.
81 Troweling in a squatting position might seem a good idea, but it's not in the long term. To repeat previous advice, USE KNEE PADS
82 Don't go near nerds who carry mattocks over their shoulder B)
83 Avoid yellow hard hats and waterproofs in summer unless you are an entomologist.

Further to achingknees entry...patellae are not, and never will be, rocks, and should not be chucked on spoil heap as such, same applies to hand and foot bones. Note to all, block lifting is a good idea and the poor osteologist will be eternally grateful.

dont put your hard hat on over your woolly hat, it makes you look like a right nutter and stops your hard hat working properly. rather, stuff the aforementioned wool hat inside the hard hat, behind the straps. this will insulate the hard hat and keep the aforementioned head snug!

when you get laid off again, like i was today, dont get pissed right up and phone your boss just to tell him he's a p***k. one of the girls who used to dig with us did this and is now even more unemployed than she was before.:face-huh:
