E-Petition - voice of reason - 26th April 2007 only another 5000 signatures needed to reach the same level in the national consciousness as http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/goldanthem/ E-Petition - BAJR Host - 26th April 2007 Archaeology is now being seen as a profession. (TRUE) The Majority of Archaeologists are badly paid, on unsecure contracts and generally without hope of sick leave or holiday pay. (SADLY still true except SSP and Stat holidays - - BUT for shrt term contracts this means only after a qualifying period - and thats why BAJR and the IFA is wanting it from DAY 1! ) For a profession this is an unbelieveable circumstance. (TOO right!) Progress should be made. (YES after all this time.. thas true... BAJR is pushing.. but we have to have political will) Surely the minister in charge of culture should be actively tackling this problem. (er... yes there should be movement... How long since APPAG?? one more time.... How long?? ) SO .. lets sign... make it look like we care... and then follow up with a BIG BOLD and BAJR statement I have been asked by Rhona Brankin to contact her after the elections (Scotchland!) and so we do have support, we do have an avenue .. so what line do you (yes YOU) want to follow??? "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu E-Petition - ecmgardner - 26th April 2007 Just a thought, but has anyone mentioned this petition (despite the wording... which because it wasn't even begun by an archaeologist is surely forgivable?) to APPAG? Does anyone know anyone in the steerting group? (Having been a public servant in a previous career - I presume there is one...? E-Petition - Digger - 26th April 2007 10.30 on a sunny Thursday- Now 506 petitions.[8D] E-Petition - BAJR Host - 26th April 2007 Does me fine... new Thread started to allow collaboration on a followup document - as per Peter's Suggestion "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu E-Petition - BAJR Host - 26th April 2007 Signatures: 592 "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu E-Petition - Paul Belford - 26th April 2007 Wow, 506. That's eight more than the petition "...to create an emergency access from the A46 into University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire at Walsgrave in Coventry", and an exciting 12 more than the desperate and mis-spelled request to "Stop Roadworks In lowestfoft [sic]" which are apparently "...causing much desruption [sic] with the residents in the town". And it's over a hundred more signatories than the one from naturists asking the PM to "facilitate the provisional [sic] of more Clothing Optional Places". So we might be onto a winner here. However it is still a way to go before we reach the dizzy heights of those who are calling the government "to allow the sale of elephants in pet shops in the UK" (535 signatures), or attempting to "ensure that Steve Harris, founder member and bass guitarist of Iron Maiden be included in the next list of honours" (652 signatures). Hopefully we might even get as much support as the 1,114 people who have petitioned to "Make Jeremy Clarkson Prime Minister". It might be too much to hope for as many as 1,666 signatures though, which would see public support for archaeologists overtake that for people wanting the government "to endorse a scheme that would see the child benefit scheme extended to cats". I have signed, by the way (archaeology that is, not cats, naturists or Jeremy Clarkson - although that last one is tempting). E-Petition - Paul Belford - 26th April 2007 Well clearly my search of the petitions website has been overtaken by events. We are now well ahead of the A46, roadworks in Lowestoft and the sale of elephants in pet shops. Watch out Iron Maiden, the archaeologists are coming! E-Petition - Andi - 26th April 2007 Ok so it looks like everything is going well! Although its quite surprising what people will sign. Personally two of my favourites are "Enter Ultimate Frisbee into the 2012 Olympics" currently with 930 and "Ban plastic shopping bags" 895. Well i hope it keeps going this well. I'm currently chastising people at work to sign, i might start dragging people to a computer soon. Just a thought but how many archaeologists are there? Does anyone have a rough guess. [8D] E-Petition - historic building - 26th April 2007 The rejected petition page is even better. Did anyone notice that the engineers are beating us http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Engineers/ |
