But how successful was the counter-reformation? eg. Copernicus' De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (which was encouraged by Pope Paul III) ultimately resulted in the acceptance of a heliocentric universe and the abandonment of Aristotelian modes of thought, thus undermining some of the very principles on which the Catholic church asserted its authority.

Going back to the original question......
Many years ago, the IFA ran some subsidised courses on business management. This covered such subjects as producing a business plan, how to talk to your bank, how to set up a business, VAT, PAYE, Tax etc. It strikes me that these skills are still needed and that it would be useful for them to run this again. (e.g. for anyone setting up as a specialist/ starting a small business in archaeology). Personally, I found the financial management and how to talk to your bank stuff really helpful, as I find that just plain scary!
I also think that some subsidised courses on things such as project management, managing small teams of people etc would probably also be jolly useful. They are skills which are not archaeology specific, but that most people in the profession will probably need in order to progress up the career ladder.
