I cant recall the exact figures but these have been posted elsewhere on BAJR if you are that bothered look them up. David what were the BAJR rates two years ago? The pension entitlement alone was about an 8% rise ie over a grand, the leave entitlement was for 4 weeks plus banks holidays worth about 2k and over a 1k in basic increase. Then there is the entitlement to a months sick pay 1.5k. This I think equated to about a third increase in the pay package.
However most people saw little increase in there take home pay. In my view this benefits package was misplaced - what people need is more cash now.

Peter does have a point.....all that pension contribution slipped in by the IFA as a backhanded pay-rise has no doubt been invested by pension bodies over the past 2 years and is now worth in the politest sense possible.....damn all.
I would rather have had the cash at the time and definitely now.

Well folks, just heard through the grapevine that a firm is currently offering the staggering amount of ?60 per day on a self employed basis. This munificent offer will,(as far as I've heard) not be advertised upon BAJR.

Would indeed not be allowed...
I would ask people who are taking this on as delf employed are aware of ALL the requirements .. don't take it from the company... check with your tax officer.
Of course.. as self employed you can work for whatever you want.. just remember to put aside your tax, NI, you get no holiday pay.. (a big chunk) and of course have other requirements to be classed as self employed.
But no... a 60 quid a day self employed would not cut it..
I may suggest to the tax office they are made aware of this.. after all, the company obviously feels that the people are indeed self employed, so there should be no trouble

I would add, check the legality of this - if this doesn't conform then inform the relevant authorities and have them look into it. It may be that insisting on your legal rights in a structured framework may be the best way forward.

I fully support he BAJR AUP, but is this an instance where there is justification in 'naming and shaming'? (if only to encourage said 'employer' to offer their staff a fair deal....)
