Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position. Mohandas Gandhi Uo1 thread - ex-archaeologist - 1st August 2009 Sorry to go back a few days, but I am just catching up. Two comments about Unitof1's postings: 26/07/2009 EH have not 'sold off' Bolingbroke Castle (Lincs.)check their website if you do not believe me 27/07/2009 ?75 for a DBA, which is quote 'nothing to do with archaeology'!!!!! He does however miss a good point about evaluations, these can vary in size enormously, and is it really helpful for a Government document to quote ?7500 as an average price? Uo1 thread - BAJR Host - 1st August 2009 mis the point.. can't believe it! seems to be some wild allegations going around jsut now on BAJR... and Uo1 please remember the AUP and what happens next. Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position. Mohandas Gandhi Uo1 thread - Unitof1 - 3rd August 2009 Sorry folks, did you miss me, have been up to my eyeballs in clients and rain and only three days to do everything, also the local planning authority have started charging for anything to do with planning like pre-application consultation so it should not be long before talking to the archaeological officers assistances will involve an invoice (chargeing for the use of the smr is almost back). < AUP Edit> Hello and welcome Lobsterpot Sorry that tattershall represents my hatred of anything to do with the national trust, which at the end of the day probably boils down to the word national, after that it becomes easy to not like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Lees-Milne and I have a particular dislike of the so called gang referred to here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/03/2008_01_mon.shtml obviously anything the eh does that is remotely nt like draws my disappointment, oh everything Hello and welcome Ex-archaeologist, yes who owns bolingbroke http://community.lincolnshire.gov.uk/BolingbrokeCastle/section.asp?catId=21791 ?7500 for an evaluation is a meaningless how big is a piece of string statement as are all the prices mentioned in eherr. I work on day rates and boiled down to a person called an archaeologist, sorry but anybody who works on a price hopefully should go to the wall, (< AUP Edit>. < AUP Edit> DBAs are for consultants, they are used to tell field archaeologists where they cant evaluate. It might be unfortunate but in my dislike of doing a dba and wanting to evaluate <AUP edit> And redearth Re re- Quote:quote:....so are we going to have a system of one man units doing local work and a few big companies tendering for everything else?Doing local work is good, for the best archaeological reasons, working in units is < AUP Edit>. < AUP Borderline> Get enough local cowboys together you can then get a posse and defend against the nasty big boys, obviously in this range war the use of volunteers and a knowledge of government based funding is going to be an advantage < AUP Borderline> http://www.lincsheritage.org/news/article-content.php?id=95 and I thought only MPs or their relatives had moats Uo1 thread - ex-archaeologist - 3rd August 2009 I am proud to have been a pawn.
