Agreed. Nonsense. Some of the most competent and skilled Archaeologists that i've worked with have never written any report whatsoever yet alone had something published in a ''proper peer reviewed journal''.

An interesting conundrum again... what makes an "Archaeologist" When I first tried to be a MIfA. (of McIfA ) It was hard as I was an illustrator, Field Arch, Surveyor... pretty much an archaeologist... but no articles to my name. I still felt like an archaeologist.

I recently tried to claim tax credits as an archaeologist but they claimed that I did not do enough hours to qualify. Oh the shame. It appeared that they had some calculation based on 30 hours a week at minimum wage for a year which is back engineered by taking the previous years earnings and dividing by the minimum wage. What this then led me into was asking the HMRC if you did not earn more than your personal allowance did you have to add up your expenses to which the answer appeared to be no which then led to the question well if you did not earn even your personal allowance could you not just claim that you had earned your personal allowance to which the answer appeared to be no. The tax credit people did not like/agree with the HMRCs answers. Now the HMRC and the tax credit people don't appear to be the same people. The HMRC were really helpful and always have been with any dealings I have had with them but these tax credit people seem to be turning self employment into some vast fraud based on "profit" that self employed persons will commit if they let them, even though the tax credit system is based on previous years disasters rather than as a subsidy paid as a lump sum after a bad year that could be used as capital for the next....

"To qualify, your self-employed work must aim to make a profit". £1 is a profit, what they mean is "a" profit which is "x" and they get to not tell you what "x" is apart from it will involve their miserable morality.
basically a bunch of Remain public service salaried pension grabbers make up any rules they like and take the piss out of the self employed. The tax credit system has to overhauled by a panel solely comprising of self employed brexit people.
I discovered that I had earnt £1 less than some figure "y", appealed and seemed to have qualified.

25 - 30 years excavation experience, report writing, staff supervision, conducting research, surveying, giving presentations on the subject etc, etc.

thats you after you crossed the Rubicon. Prentice seems to imagine qualifications have to be obtained first. I might argue that the qualification is being allowed to pay income tax under the nominative "archaeologist" or as in my current guise being able to claim working tax credits as an "archaeologist". Not sure that the P60/45 form ask for a description of employment. Could be that Prentice requires some self appointed university qualification form the salaried or a payment of tithes/licences to organisations like the CBA or that other one that's name keeps changing.
Anyway this thread was about predictions and who would have predicted brexit. Now will Valletta have to be unsigned or do we just carry on with it? I seem to remember that it said that only suitably qualified somethings should be allowed to undertake excavation.....and I don't know of anybody who was ever done for that.

BSc only, but await the chartered Institutes self appointed chartered members definition. I wouldn't have thought that you would accept any peer. All this peer reviewing seems a bit academic, I don't see it belonging in the commercial world, how would you increase profits from it, that's what the working tax credit people want to know. I don't recall valleta wanting suitable peer review to undertake excavation.
