Fenland District Council to relax archaeological planning regulations - Tizzy - 24th June 2011 Just a point before I leave for my afternoon archaeological appointments, and yes here in the west country we do have enlightened councils which see HPR as a necessary part of the planning process. There are currently 9 members and 75 guests watching the content of this forum, we do not know who these 'guests' are, some will most definitely be waiting for us to let our profession down by stuping to the same level of Cllr. Melton by marking derogatory remarks. We can fight this on a professional level from within an industry which has a proud tradition of protecting this country from the rigors of a construction industry which if allowed to operate unrestricted will have no regard for our fragile heritage. I know I keep harping on about this but do not get provoked into saying something to damage archaeologists and our colleagues in the conservation forum. Fenland District Council to relax archaeological planning regulations - Tizzy - 24th June 2011 Be patient RuthFT we have only just fired a 'tiny' volley across Cllr. Melton's bow! Things are afoot, all legal and hopefully to the benefit of the country's heritage. Fenland District Council to relax archaeological planning regulations - Unitof1 - 24th June 2011 Thanks Sparky Quote:Its is indeed a PFI scheme, in partnership with this mob http://www.equitix.co.uk/edu1.html There is Code of approved practice for the regulation of contractual arrangements in archaeology No 25 On obligations to other parties 25 A member embarking upon fieldwork will secure the permission of the landowner and tenant as appropriate, and of any others with rights or responsibilities for the land and its safekeeping. Fenland District Council to relax archaeological planning regulations - P Prentice - 24th June 2011 probably worth stating here that if councillor melton gets his way some 1man bands would hugely benefit Fenland District Council to relax archaeological planning regulations - ShadowJack - 24th June 2011 Interesting.... But as: Quote:oxford county council archaeology departmentdoesn't actually exist - guess we'll never know :face-crying: Fenland District Council to relax archaeological planning regulations - BAJR - 24th June 2011 Indeed the way Cllr Melton wants it to go, we will look down holes while we hold a pint of ale and are glad we don't have to be paid to do it... given our independent wealth. WE have taken great strides to professionalise ourselves, taken big steps to be relevant and useful in today's society. Have some way to go, but should not be snuffed out because a developer wants to build a mock tudor mansion on a nice piece of real estate. the Fenland are a remarkable resource for the people, and are the reason why people visit and want to live there. Take away the heritage, concrete over the fens and put up an Asda or 16,000 brick houses... knock down those ugly listed buildings in order to create a homogeneous monotony and a fat profit for the developer, who can happily ride rough-shod over legislation that was there to protect the environment. Well no.... not here... not now... NO. So far I have seen no reply from Cllr Melton... he has nothing more to say - WEll Mr Melton. BAJRs bite. Archaeologists are not your cuddly lot, willing to bend over and take it from the likes of you. The Freedom of information request has been accepted and they now have 20 days to produce correspondence that relates to archaeology heritage or bunny huggers. Lets see how embarrassing this can be for I hope a soon to be ex-councillor. A discredit to those he purports to serve. Imagine the developments he could have allowed to appear if he got his way... Incinerator anyone? |
