If you could return a specific Time and place. .... - Misty - 29th October 2011
I read a short story years ago (can't remember title or author) about time travel. A history student was offered the opportunity to go on one of the first 'journies' and he hoped to go back to meet St Paul - learned Hebrew and Latin etc to help him out. Due to a glitch he ended up at St Paul's Cathedral during the blitz and helped the team of fire fighters constantly on the roof. He was heard muttering "what have we done?" by one of the team and they assumed he was a German spy (he didn't really fit in). In his future time St Paul's had been blown up by a terrorist attack with a dirty bomb. He was whisked back to his own time to discover it wasn't a glitch - his Professor just wanted him to see the humanity behind all history, even the most momentous events. (I might have remembered this all wrong - but the concept has stayed with me).

Coo...that's a bit deep Misty!:0
Hmmm...String Theory. Nothing to do with the Clangers and how to make soup then?

No, I'm very shallow ... a proper chattering brook! I looked the story up and I have mis-remembered it quite a bit - it's called Fire Watch by Connie Willis and can be read online (the joy of the internet!)
I can't help with string theory or multiple universes, my brain tells me it's not sensible and then shuts down.

Lack of imagination is surprisingly common amongst supporters of wild theories. What sort of mark would you leave, then?

(Vertical lines and circles). I would need to chat to some computer geeks first. I can just see it binary code in a cave painting. Wonder if it is already there?

Haha I can imagine some message in binary code, splattered with undeniably ancient dirt, would confuse archaeologists for decades to come. Maybe you should also leave a message in Klingon and watch the Star Trek fandom tear itself apart.

Regular viewers of Dr Who will already know that the remains of most ancient civilisations are littered with references to their visits from time travellers.
