P Prentice Wrote:i seem to recall that it was (one of) you who demanded that a degree in archaeology was what entitled you to be an archaeologist. my only requisite is that you study and intend to say something worth the effort
Recent experience suggests that if you say something worth the effort the consultant insists it gets taken out on the grounds that that wasn't what was being paid for, or might disagree with something they have had printed previously !!

No pitch-forks and someone's nicked the latest scythe
- on the up-side, can contribute a very sharp bill-hook and several tarmac-rakes, which have no other obvious archaeological function :face-approve:
Bane of life these days is 'consultants' who either haven't done their job (more than one instance of them not noticing scheduled monuments!) or who actively try to deny the presence of, and then try to obstruct the investigation of, archaeology on behalf of their clients !

I don't suppose you have any evidence to back up that statement... in private I would be willing to look at what you have.

I do however believe it is far easier to look for someone else to blame than to look at ourselves. One of the big things I have managed recently is to look at me first... to look at my actions.... my responsibilities and to challange myself first. Yes indeed I can challenge others... but first... I ask myself the question... and what is my responsibility in this?

I'd be interested to know more too. Unless it's me in which case keep schtum.
But seriously, I must be doing something wrong because I've never found an opportunity to 'syphon off' funds intended for the actual archaeology of any project I've worked on.
