I will be interested to see if the reshuffle has that effect or just weakens the whole system.
Well its pleasing to hear that at least Myk Flitcroft survived the 'reshuffle'. This will ensure that there is well qualified continuity with the 'ancien regime' even if he is now titled 'Personal Space (Heritage) Project Co-ordinator' instead of County Mountie.

Myk's survival is good news certainly, but the cutbacks at Nothants hit the SMR/HER far harder than the planning advice area it seems. I believe the SMR officer is pretty much working single-handed at maintaining the database and supplying searches etc. It takes her at least 3-4 weeks to produce an SMR search after an order has been received, such is her backlog. A crap situation to be sure.
Best everyone be aware of this when programming ES work etc

From Kevin Wooldridge Quote:quote:Call me an old cynic (amongst other things) but.... I am guessing that the clause in the job advert for the Northampton posts requiring 'a willingness to work anywhere in the UK', kind of infers that they are now archaeologists based in Northampton rather than a Northants-dedicated unit.
Northamptonshire Archaeology have been working far away from their 'home' county for at least six years, for instance in Doncaster, so any such change long predates this year's changes to the curatorial system.

For the record Northants still do a lot of work in their home county and should still be regarded, IMHO, as a locally dedicated service as well as a nationwide contractor.
