William Blake New BAJR - monty - 24th January 2009 now they are not appearing........aaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhh..... i give up and remain avatarless !!!! New BAJR - danhull@britarch.ac.uk - 26th January 2009 The new website looks great. Can I just ask how well it conforms to accessibility guidelines, particularly for the visually impaired? There are some useful guidelines issued by the RNIB, who will also offer you a 'See it Right' audit for new websites. In particular, the menu on the left of the homepage, while very stylish, uses a faint contrast which some will find difficult to read, particularly if they suffer from certain forms of colour blindess. ColourOracle is a good program which simulates different forms of colour blindness and enables you to check your website. Also, do you always use alt tags on images? Have you tested the website using a text reader, such as Browse Aloud: http://www.browsealoud.com? How does it cope with the five vertical columns you have on the homepage? Just some thoughts to throw in. I know the balance between design and accessibility can be a hard one to strike. On the new CBA site (small plug! http://www.britarch.ac.uk) we worked hard to try to get this right (although it still isn't perfect admittedly). New BAJR - monty - 26th January 2009 wow !! i used another pc and it worked !!!! New BAJR - historic building - 26th January 2009 I have to say the new setup does not work on my computer at work. There are random bits of the dropdown menus which appear on the LH side of the screen and the page width is greater than the screen. Other bits, such as the login box now rest at the bottom of the screen with a range of stuff stacked up below them. I have some eyesight problems - largely related to using computers - and I find the orange very difficult to read. Internet explorer version 6. quite a few numbers - probably a very old one. Actually the IFA web site barely works on my system so I wonder if the internet pipe coming in here just does not like archaeology - could explain quite a bit. New BAJR - BAJR Host - 26th January 2009 All very useful snaggs and ones I will get onto ... including the orange.. :face-approve: how about dark red? Dan, good points.. it is one of those tricky things, and as there are a host of computers and configurations and operating sytems and browsers adn screen sizes... it can be difficult. I will look at this. For example.. your own drop down menu is undreadable for me on one of my computers using FIrefox.. the dropdown is transparent.. so I know there are words, but can't read them... look at it in IE7 and bing.. they are back... Would people prefer the menu on the right (here) to be at the top instead of the videos (which to be honest is just annoying me now.) I had to use two different menu systems (don't ask!) for the main site and the forum... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to this forum system! But I am loathe to ditch it, as you would all have fun in moving to a new one! A few people have sent in snags... and thats what I need, as although I have 4 computers.. and try and test.. I need this input to see how you are dealing with it. Keep them coming... and if you can be precisie.. and give a url where the trouble is.. all the better. Now... wheres my guide to better websites :face-huh: On the bright side... the numbers of people coming to BAJR has risen by 11% in the last 2 weeks. :face-approve: ?When a sinister person means to be your enemy, they always start by trying to become your friend.?
