I have found on average mine last about five years. The first was lost/pinched second reversed over and third snapped from use as a pickaxe and is currently welded back together but now not treated with the same carefree abandon- I used to sit on it as. Don’t remember paying ?50 quid more like 15-20 off Johnny hall.
It seems interesting that the Norwegian krafse term is presumably german derived- was hoping it was sami for scrigal, seax or tooth pick or thor’s lightweight Mj?llnir for the discerning pirate.

I think John Hall was buying krefser when the kroner was low against the pound and he was last back in Norway - when - 1996?. Latest quote I got was 426kr from Fiskars.....for the long handled version.....

Been quite a while since I've been on BAJR - lovely new site Mr Hosty :face-approve:
Interesting discussion, especially as the AAI&S (Association of Archaeological Illustrators and Surveyors) have excluded photography as part of the specialism until the last year.

I have so often come across the attitude that illustrators aren't really specialists and completely unnecessary because the person asking you to do the drawing could do it themselves if they had the time. Funny really because when I was a digger there was an attitude amongst some site labourers of 'how hard can it be to dig a hole in the ground... I could do that'.
