Borekickers Past Horizons magazine - kevin wooldridge - 12th November 2008 You may be interested to know that I wrote to the IFA recently suggesting that they might like to make 'The Archaeologist' magazine as well as all other IFA publications available in a digital format (similar to Past Horizons magazine). I thought this would be useful for all us IFA members who might have access to internet, but not necessarilly to the UK post system. Their reply was to the effect that the technology was beyond their grasp at present and further that there was no demand for 'The Archaeologist' in any format other than hard-copy (although how they arrive at conclusion without actually asking their members I am not entirely sure). Could you maybe share the secret to your successful magazine with the IFA? Past Horizons magazine - BAJR Host - 12th November 2008 We would be more than happy to help them if they wanted to... the secret... ask those that know.... (in this case... me!) We did put the Magazine up for British Archaeology award for Innovative Technology ... but sadly... we did not even get on the short list... So perhaps its not as technologically advanced as the IFA think :face-huh: Happy to say that readership is in the thousands already - so it does work, it is easy, but it requires asking us to help. As I say... the offer is out there, and they ahve our telephone number. As to no demand for it... well... that will be why we have such a low readership... there is a demand... I have been putting up digital documents now for ages... this is the most advanced version... but even scribd... I can have hundreds of viewers for otherwise 'lost' documents. I have several options for the IfA As to time.... well... as a single person.. who does quite a bit... You have to make the time... becasue you believe it "I don't have an archaeological imagination.." Borekickers Past Horizons magazine - matthew.law - 12th November 2008 Wait a second (and apologies for wandering slightly off topic) - I thought some back issues of the archaeologist were available online. Right here-http://www.archaeologists.net/modules/icontent/index.php?page=40. Silly IFA. Sorry IfA Matt Past Horizons magazine - kevin wooldridge - 12th November 2008 Apologies Matt regarding the back issues. What I suggested to the IFA was that the current issue should be made available in that format (as an option). I don't really see what the IFA loses by not making the current issue available. They could even issue a 'secret code' to members (perhaps hidden in the heel of a Clarks Commando)if they are bothered about unauthorised access. As if anyone joins the IFA for the magazine.....OK I know probably someone has..... Past Horizons magazine - matthew.law - 12th November 2008 Ahh, I see. Sorry for misunderstanding. I was a little surprised to see it's £10 to non-members. I wonder if anybody pays, doesn't seem worth it when there's high-quality free content like Past Horizons, or the Stonepages podcast. Nonetheless, let me know when I need to start checking my boots. Matt Past Horizons magazine - BAJR Host - 12th November 2008 I think we love you Matt! Talking of Stonepages podcasts (again - high quality ... free ... no grants... no funding just Stonepages, BAJR and the technical knowhow of Dave Horrocks) I have worked out the horror that I have recorded 350 hours! yipes!!!! This Xmas.. I am going to let the bloopers see the light of day! No bloopers on Past Horizons though.. Seriously .. we are so thrilled and thank everyone forthe kind words... its why we do it. thank you. "I don't have an archaeological imagination.." Borekickers |
