Training Courses - BAJR Host - 17th November 2008 As a stop gap just now... until we formalise it.. here is a list of courses. They range from education to thatching and drystone walling, from conservation stonemasons to limework. The one caveat I must stress is that short weekend or week courses will only give you a flavour.... A full course / apprenticeship will run for perhaps 4 years. so this is no quick fix... but be a long term commitment. Think long and hard about where you are now... where you feel you want to go... and perhaps try out a short course if you want to find out whether clinging to a thatched roof in winter is a good move? Anyway ... thanks to Maggie of Past Horizons for grabbing this quick list: East Sussex Archaeology and Museums Partnership http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/localandfamilyhistory/localhistory/archaeology/training/default.htm York Archaeological Trust â Dig Hungate http://www.jorvik-viking-centre.co.uk/hungate/abouthungate/about1.htm Cressing Temple http://www.cressingtemple.org.uk/Courses/Introduction.htm Dorset Centre for Rural Skills http://www.dorsetruralskills.co.uk/courses.htm National Stone Centre http://www.nationalstonecentre.org.uk/tr_drystonewalling.html College of the Peak http://www.collegeofthepeak.org.uk/ag.html The Flintman Company http://www.flintman.co.uk/ York Short Courses http://www.york.ac.uk/depts/arch/Professional/Professional.htm International Academic Projects http://www.academicprojects.co.uk/ CPD courses Ironbridge Institute http://www.ironbridge.bham.ac.uk/historic-environment.htm The Scottish Lime Centre http://www.scotlime.org The Welsh Centre for Traditional and Ecological Building http://www.lime.org.uk/courses_books/Courses.asp Weald & Downland Open Air Museum http://www.wealddown.co.uk/Courses/adult-education-continuing-education.htm Historic Scotland Fellowship and Internship Programme http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/index/heritage/conservation/conservation-training-and-skills-development/fellowship-and-internship-programme.htm NTS Culzean Castle stonemason apprenticeship http://www.nts.org.uk/Conserve/buildings_training.php NTS Thistle Camps http://www.nts.org.uk/ThistleCamps National Museums Liverpool An introduction to laser cleaning in conservation An introduction to laser scanning in the heritage field http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/conservation/technologies/courses.aspx Historic Environment Traineeship (HET) Scheme http://www.helm.org.uk/server/show/ConWebDoc.14108 Grampus Heritage http://www.grampusheritage.co.uk University of Bristol Short Courses http://www.bris.ac.uk/archanth/continuing/shortcourses "I don't have an archaeological imagination.."
