London Archaeologist on ADS - chiz - 19th December 2008 The long-running magazine London Archaeologist is now scanned and on ADS for years up to 2005 (Vols 1-10), including all the annual site round-ups, and indices, from Britarch: Quote:quote: London Archaeologist on ADS - BAJR Host - 19th December 2008 can't seem to search the whole lot... which is a pity.. "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton London Archaeologist on ADS - chiz - 19th December 2008 no, tis only scanned unfortunately, but each article appears to be a separate file mostly so nice pocket sized files. A fantastic mag, going since 1968; really charts how archaeology in London has changed, even just by haircuts. I love the 'specialist equipment' list in Vol I No1 with all the winches and kangos that Southwark & Lambeth Arch Soc had for breaking out sites. I used to read all the old issues, starting at Vol I, No1, every lunchtime when I was doing px. Its brilliant to see resources like this accessible to everyone. The annual roundups of sites are a truly brilliant resource. Well done LA and ADS London Archaeologist on ADS - BAJR Host - 20th December 2008 Pity.. my one niggle Just to show how easy it would be... here is a test http://www.scribd.com/doc/9228764/London?secret_password=1pqvwe2284dnofn5683w I just put it through an OCR.. now you can search the text... took a few seconds per page. imagine being able to search the whole 40 years magazine for the word putney... for example... and then getting every article with the word! Now thats using digital power. Perhaps they may consider this? "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton |
