24th May to 19th June 2009: Excavation of a Roman Palace at Oplontis close to Pompeii.
A small team from KAFS will be working with the University of Texas on a Research Excavation. Some weekly spaces available to KAFS members and two experienced Site Supervisors required. KAFS members £35 a day. Site Supervisors free on production of CV

I once said in passing that it would be sods law that the whole of the city was finally exposed for the world to see-and then Vesuvius erupts and buries it all again.B)

Just wanted to add, for any of you who do end up at Pompeii, don't forget to visit Herculaneum. The archaeology preserved there is much better and more exciting than at Pompeii, the buildings stand two storey's high, have rooves, amazing stucco and frescos are preserved, wooden artifacts and wooden elements of the buildings survive, doors, window frames, furniture! The site is easier to access and within an amazing part of Campania, the city of Ercolano has so much to offer (check out the MAV the new virtual archaeology museum, it's not necessarily 100% accurate but the experience is well worth it). You'll never see such an amazing juxta-position of ancient and modern! Go there before you go anywhere else!

When I was about 13 my dad sat me down to give me 'the talk'. He was obviously really embarrassed and unable to start on the birds and the bees stuff, but he did manage to get out one piece of advice 'Never ever go to Naples'!!
And do you know what. First place I visited on my Inter-rail adventure a few years later.....Napoli!!

Apparantly the phrase "see Naples and die" comes from the italian saying "vedi Napoli e poi muori",as to see Naples one would be so overcome by the beauty of the place-it could kill you. Though some would say it's because it's such a dangerous place.

It appears to be a tough place, but then again so is the Old Kent Road and I lived there for ten years. However, Naples can make a single lunchtime last for several days, whereas in the Old Kent Road it just [u]seems</u> like several days......
