What's missing from the toolkit? - BAJR Host - 8th January 2009 Alright... here is a classic BAJR question. You all know about Past Horizons toolstore (its what keeps all the other free bits of Past Horizons going !) So the magazine, videos, podcasts, volunteer opportunities list needs the toolstore. http://www.pasthorizons.com/shop What I was doing just now... was thinking of some items that we could/should add. (some are just not gonna work! ) But here is what we have on Past Horizons right now... because I can't stand stuff that is cheap and breaks, we only have the best.. so quality counts.. it also has to be postable.. (so mattock heads - we will tell you where to get them.. but the cost of postage would be more than the blinkin item) WHS 4" wooden Handled Trowel WHS 4" Soft Handled Trowel 12 pieceSmall Tool Set Tyzack Leaf and Square - 1/2'' Tyzack Trowel and Square - 1/2'' Hand Brush Hand shovel - 6'' Stanley snap off knife Drafting Film A3 cut sheets Pentel Black Bullet Tip Marker Rotring Tikky Pencil 0.5mm Rotring Tikky Pencil 0.7mm Drafting Film Roll 841mm x 20m Masking tape Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser Bulldog Clips 41mm Finds Bags - all sizes Bic cristal ball pen Tyvek Labels Crystal Boxes Contour Gauges (Japanese steel) 15cm and 30 cm Stanley® PowerWinder® Long Tape - 30m Stanley® PowerWinder® Long Tape - 60m Birch Folding Ruler - 2m Plastic Folding Ruler - 1m Triangular Scale Ruler Aluminium Line Level Stanley 5m Tape Stanley 8m Tape Stanley Closed Case Fibreglass 30m Tape Stanley plumb bob Mason's Line (white/yellow and pink) steel 30cm ruler now... what would you add? :face-huh: "Gie's a Job.." What's missing from the toolkit? - BAJR Host - 8th January 2009 ooops... forgot you already get them in a toolkit... but can't buy separately... trying to find aluminium 6" nails (I have two... but from where???) Grid pegs... heavy and best got nearby... mushroom caps.. hmmmmm good one "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton What's missing from the toolkit? - The-Sheep - 8th January 2009 My toolbox wouldn't be complete with a large spoon for those pesky postholes! :-) Also a fan of a large 6 inch trowel for cleaning back. However I would say the most important thing lacking (i think) is a small wooden tool for dealing with any skellies. I just use those that you can pick up in a variety of unusual shapes from art shops. What's missing from the toolkit? - chiz - 8th January 2009 just been shopping for a new drawing contract today, items purchased included a portable A3 drawing board, A4 light box, set of calipers for measuring, rotring nibs, scalpel blades, ink, magnifying glass, 6H rotring leads....and I've just made up some artefact and site photo scales from card and from from dowelling. OK all that is a bit specialist for only illustrators/specialists and might not shift, but a small x4 handlens would be good to have on site? What about A3 clipboards, the hardboard ones you can clip a 5m permatrace sheet on, with a white plastic coating. Levels and staffs are probably a bit to big, and YSS is cheap. Can't see 6H pencils, normal wooden ones, or the rotring clutch pencils which I think only come with 4H leads now? or pencil sharpeners. Did you know the old metal pencil sharpeners were sometimes made from Magnesium alloy, if you heated them up they would start burning white once they got going!! Do not try this at home!!!! Do you not sell hard hats, goggles, earplugs/defenders and hi vis? I can't find a stockist for the hiviz string vest I once saw sported by a rather large miner.....and before anyone says, I know your employer should provide PPE, but I guess David also sells to local societies/amateurs etc What's missing from the toolkit? - BAJR Host - 8th January 2009 A3 drawing board .. buggr to post... set of calipers for measuring --- nice... we have seen cheap ones... look good (for 2 seconds!) so would prefer decent. scalpel blades - may as well! and the handles? what is your fave blade.. I like a 10 A3 clipboards... hmmmm will have a look 6H rotring leads.... damn hard (what size .5mm? ) mag glass ( already go a treat in store for that one ! even comes with leather case. Do you not sell hard hats, goggles, earplugs/defenders and hi v.... No... we thought about it... but prefer to tell people where they can get them... We also help in ... wait for it..... making planning frames.. ( to sell them would be very costly .. so I prefer to tell people how... and if they realy don't want to...) Quite a few things I prefer to help people... We are not evil capitalists.. (we will crush anyone who stands against us.. undercut them and that sort of thing) so photoscales... from Adam Stamford... Hi-Viz string vest.. ( we even source stuff at no cost... because we is nice... ) "Gie's a Job.." Prof. 'Dolly' Parton What's missing from the toolkit? - monty - 8th January 2009 ........... a ladle for deep post holes, and a couple of paint brushes............line spray paint..........
